“Prevention is better than a pound of cure, and when you know the cause, you have cut half the way to treatment.”
After starting with this quote i always believed in. Let us admit first that Hair loss is a problem that many people face and suffer from, and I have always been asked about the advices that I can give to someone who suffers from permanent hair loss, brittleness or dryness.
In fact, according to studies, our head hair grows between 10-15 millimeters every month, and of course, as a person gets older, this rate of hair growth begins to slow down little by little. I also want to note that hair loss in the form of 50-100 hairs per day is considered a very natural loss. But if it increases than that significantly, attention must be paid.
The reason for this is often the following;
-Genes (a genetic cause such as androgenetic alopecia).
-Adolescence.
-Menopause.
-Use of chemical dyes and bleaching and straightening products.
-Problems related to the digestive system and the ability to absorb nutrients necessary for hair.
-Thyroid problems, gland and hormonal imbalance or disorder.
-Severe problems or defects in the immune system.
-Mental state (tension, anxiety, illness, pressure...).
-Taking birth control pills.
-Anemia or blood iron deficiency.
-Having a complex surgery.
-Always being in high temperatures and exposing hair to hot weather.
-Tinea capitis (fungal infection).
-The person's obsession with pulling out his hair, and this is also one of the psychological conditions that must be treated immediately.
-Pregnancy and childbirth may also cause hair loss and weakness.
-Scalp infections and lack of good care.
-Nutrient deficiency or malnutrition.
In addition to personal and medical hair care, I would like to point out that most of the cases that I encounter, fortunately, are caused by poor or lack of nutrition, a condition that can be treated to return the hair to its luster and beauty by focusing on the following nutrients:
1) Protein: found in eggs, white & red meat, legumes, milk and its derivatives.
2) Iron: found in meat, spinach, watercress, whole grains and oats.
3) Zinc: found in white and red meat, eggs, whole grains and seeds such as flax.
4) Selenium: found in nuts and eggs.
5) B vitamins, especially Biotin: found in whole grains, liver and egg yolks.
6) Vitamin A and lycopene: found in orange and red vegetables and fruits such as tomatoes, papaya, pink guava, carrots, apricots, cantaloupe, sweet potatoes and pumpkins, as well as in liver.
7) Vitamin C: found in citrus fruits, berries, kiwi, guava and broccoli.
8) Vitamin E and phenolic compounds: high-quality olive oil, walnuts and avocados.
9) Omega-3s: found in fish, nuts, flaxseeds, and vegetable oils.
Note: Be careful when using the nutritional supplements and be sure to consume it under your dietitian or doctor’s control. Because, excessive intake of nutritional supplements (for example; A & E vitamins) could affect oppositely and causes hair loss.
